Position: Music Therapist (part-time)
Location: Residential campus, Shelburne, Ontario

Pine River Institute is a Residential Treatment Centre and Outdoor Leadership Experience for youth 13 to 19 struggling with substance abuse and the cluster of behaviours often associated with it. Our campus is located on a 200-acre site 100 kilometers northwest of Toronto, Ontario, and includes a residential program, an 8-bed therapeutic wilderness program near Algonquin Park, and an aftercare program, with an office in Toronto. Our family-centered program is innovative and highly structured, and creates opportunities for troubled teens to engage in a focused transformation process through a fusion of education, therapy, recreation, and life skills. The majority of our students are from Ontario, and are funded by the Ministries of Health and Education.  We also work with families from across Canada, and internationally.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF THIS POSITION INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

1. •Lead 2 music therapy groups per week (at present these are: Mondays 1:30-2:45 and 3-4:15pm)
   

2. •Engage students in ‘process’ and reflection via music, as is consistent with Pine River Institute practice and philosophy
   

3. •Develop groups that meet the emotional needs and stages of the individuals and group
   

4. •Participate in monthly debriefs with other creative art therapists and Program Manager.
   

5. •Purchase and maintain materials when approved
   

6. •Submit weekly observation reports on each student, outlining themes of the program and engagement level of each student
   

7. •Report concerns regarding student safety immediately to program staff.
   

8. •Teach private lessons on a variety of instruments once per week (1/2 hour sessions with up to 8 students per week).
   

9. •Help to instil the value of the arts in our school community
   

QUALIFICATIONS FOR THIS POSITION INCLUDE:

1. •Demonstrated sound judgment, integrity, patience, commitment and a sense of humour
   

2. •Experience in working with adolescents with addiction/behavioural issues
   

3. •Demonstrated ability to be self-motivated and professional
   

4. •Able to teach private lessons as well as manage a group of 8-10 adolescents aged 13-19
   

5. •College diploma or University Degree in a related field
   

Preferred applicant will have:

1. •5 years experience teaching private lessons
   

2. •Registered Music Therapist certification
