Position: Manager, Human Resources (part-time)
Location: Residential campus, Shelburne, Ontario
Pine River Institute is a Residential Treatment Centre and Outdoor Leadership Experience for youth 13 to 19 struggling with substance abuse and the cluster of behaviours often associated with it. Our campus is located on a 200-acre site 100 kilometers northwest of Toronto, Ontario, and includes a residential program, an 8-bed therapeutic wilderness program near Algonquin Park, and an aftercare program, with an office in Toronto. Our family-centered program is innovative and highly structured, and creates opportunities for troubled teens to engage in a focused transformation process through a fusion of education, therapy, recreation, and life skills. The majority of our students are from Ontario, and are funded by the Ministries of Health and Education. We also work with families from across Canada, and internationally.
RESPONSIBILITIES OF THIS POSITION INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
• Reporting to Executive Director and Finance Director
• Supporting Senior Leadership Team to continue to attract and retain highly motivated, engaged, and talented staff;
maintaining and developing our recruitment network
• Managing the planning, development, implementation and administration of the following HR functions: recruitment,
staffing, resume database management, employee relations, performance management administration, employee
development, orientation, policies and procedures, compensation and benefits
• Providing direction and guidance to managers and employees regarding all HR-related functions such as
performance management, career and competence development, employee relations, compensation and
organizational efficiencies within the various departments
Operational duties include:
• Identifying employment needs in conjunction with managers
• Coordinating, facilitating, conducting employment interviews and reference checks
• Preparing offer letters in conjunction/sign-off with managers
• Coordinating new hire orientations
• Ensuring all required documentation is completed and maintained in personnel records
• Maintaining career section for company website, blog, etc.
• Communicating with existing employees on new hires or departing employees
• Conducting exit interviews and compiling results and recommendations to the Senior Leadership Team
• Working with managers to complete exit checklist and ensuring all company property returned
• Developing, updating and maintaining all HR policies and procedures, as required
QUALIFICATIONS FOR THIS POSITION INCLUDE:
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent and a minimum of 3-5 years of related HR experience; HR designation a definite
asset
• 2-3 years experience in an HR Manager role
• High level of knowledge of HR-related principles, best practices and procedures, employment standards legislation
and other regulatory requirements
• Strong customer service and ability to function in dynamic fast-paced environment
• Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
• Professional manner and ability to act with tact, diplomacy and discretion
• Proactivity and ability to work independently
• Strong attention to detail
• Keen interest in the not-for-profit sector
• Payroll experience a definite asset
